Why NACD works differently

development happens every day. so should the program.

One hour a week can’t compete with 365 days. Watch one year of your child’s development play out two ways, and see why NACD flipped the model in 1979: a plan for the whole day, every day, run by you.

watch one year, two ways

The typical model

One session a week, in an office

0

sessions in a year

52 hours a year, delivered by someone who sees your child one hour a week.

The NACD model

Short activities at home, multiple times a day, every day

0

days of input in a year, and that’s counting each day once

Delivered by the people who know your child best and are there every day: you.

Evaluation days: the program is rebuilt three times a year, every four months.

Same year. Same child. A completely different amount of input.

And counting sessions actually understates it. Because those sessions are an hour long, and a childhood is not made of hours a week. Keep scrolling.

Now count hours, not sessions

an appointment is an hour. a childhood is all day, every day.

0

hours a year, in the typical model
(52 sessions, one hour each)

0

waking hours in your child’s year, roughly
(and you’re there for them)

your child’s waking year, as one bar

The typical model’s 52 hours: about 1% of it

Where your child actually develops: home, daily life, the other 99%

An office model touches about 1% of your child’s waking year. Your family lives in the other 99%.

Development doesn’t pause between appointments. Every meal, every conversation, every game, every night of sleep is shaping your child’s brain, with a plan or without one. And when you put a plan inside those hours, the gap doesn’t just exist. It compounds.

Now watch it compound

the gap gets wider every single week

Count conservatively: just one hour of program activity a day, delivered in short sessions woven through daily life. Here’s the input each model accumulates.

0 1,000 hrs 2,000 hrs yr 1 yr 2 yr 3 yr 4 yr 5 yr 6 yr 7 2,555 hours program input by year 7, at home 364 hours the weekly model, by year 7 365 hours: one NACD year the weekly model gets here in year 7

7 years

How long the weekly model takes to deliver what a parent-implemented program delivers in one, counting just one hour of daily activity. And your child doesn’t have seven years to wait.

This is what “exponentially better” actually means: not a bigger dose, a different curve.

Frequency, intensity, and duration are how the brain changes. The weekly model can only ever add hours slowly. A parent, coached and equipped, adds them every single day, and the days never stop compounding.

frequency, intensity, duration

The brain changes in response to input, and the input that changes it most is the input it receives most often. A brilliant hour once a week cannot outweigh the other 167 hours of that week. What happens every day wins.

That’s not a criticism of any professional’s skill. It’s arithmetic. And it’s why NACD flipped the model in 1979: instead of delivering the input ourselves an hour at a time, we evaluate your child, design the program, and train the person with unlimited access to your child’s days. You.

Three times a year, every four months, your child is re-evaluated and the program is rebuilt around who they are becoming. Between evaluations, you’re coached, supported, and never guessing alone.

what a program day actually looks like

Not hours of table work. Short, specific activities woven through the day you already have:

Breakfast

A few minutes of a targeted activity before the day starts.

After school

Two or three short activities, minutes each, matched to your child’s program.

In the car

Auditory activities that turn drive time into input.

Before bed

A quiet wind-down activity, and then the sleep the brain organizes by.

Minutes at a time. Every day. That’s the entire trick, and it’s the one thing no clinic can deliver for you.

your child’s days are the most powerful tool there is
