Staff Writer and Parent Representative
Beverly Giroux
|
Beverly Giroux came to NACD to get help for her autistic daughter. As her daughter improved, Beverly also brought her son with diagnoses of Aspergers, ADHD and speech delay and her other daughter with symptoms of ADHD to NACD. They all made amazing progress. Beverly now works for NACD as a Staff Writer and as a Parent Representative, so she can help other parents learn how to help their children.
Professionally, Beverly has a background in psychology and law. Beverly
says, “I studied psychology in college, with an emphasis in child development. At the time, I read stories about autistic children, never imagining that one day I would want to know much more. When my middle daughter received her diagnosis of autism, I spent two years researching and trying various approaches to help her, with little success. I asked everyone I could find with autistic children, ‘What are you doing that works?’ I finally met a mom whose child was progressing with NACD’s help.
When my daughter started the NACD program, she made measurable improvement within the first month. I was hooked.”
After receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology, Beverly attended the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. She served on Law Review and later clerked for two judges, work that required a large amount of research and writing. Later, she worked for the U.S. Department of Justice as an attorney. She says, “Working in the legal field, made me respect facts and logic. Those are the things that attracted me to NACD. The program activities designed by Bob Doman are based on scientific principles. And the fact is that as I faithfully performed those activities, my children progressed.”
Today, Beverly’s children are her greatest joy. All of them function at or above grade level academically, but more importantly, they are emotionally well-adjusted, happy, creative children, who communicate well. Beverly says, “I want to tell everyone in the world about NACD.”
