Cori Longfellow
B.S., Elementary Education, K-8
Coach
Cori received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA) in May 1994, and married her husband, Tom, the following month. They lived in Kansas until 2000, during which time Cori taught sixth grade at a local private school, managed a School-to-Careers grant for the local technical college, and worked for the Manhattan (KS) Chamber of Commerce.
In 2000, the couple moved to Texas with their three-week-old son, Evan. In 2003, at age 2 ½, Evan was diagnosed with autism. While the medical community could offer little more than condolences, God had another plan for Evan. Cori and Tom were introduced to NACD through a friend at church whose former neighbors were an NACD family with an autistic child, as well. The Longfellows have been doing program since 2003. Through NACD's approach, Evan's world has opened up, and he is now free of many of the barriers autism imposes.
Fast forward through seven years of program and a move to Vermont, and Evan has become a remarkable young man. At age 10 he's skiing with a local downhill team, has a brown belt in karate, participates in a home school athletics club, and loves reading, science, and history.
Cori and Tom have been blessed with three children: Evan (10), Ian (5), and Alexandra (20 months). Cori home schools Evan and works part-time for NACD as a coach, joining the staff in Aug 2010. She looks forward to the incredible learning opportunity working on staff will provide and is excited to see how NACD will change the lives of the families she coaches just as it has changed her family for the better.
